Student Senate

General By-laws

The purpose of the Student Senate is to represent the Student Body in all matters pertaining to and including the Student Body. The Student Senate will provide such opportunities for students to participate and voice themselves in their social, cultural, and academic education.

All Executive Council Officers shall:

1. Strive for the ideals established in the Preamble and Purpose of the Constitution.

2. Agree to foster a sense of goodwill and fellowship with the Student Body.

3. Aid in the selection of a Parliamentarian, as required; the senator that will be responsible for all judicial decisions and interpretation of legislative documents.

4. Follow all office-specific by-laws as well as general by-laws.

5. Work on selecting goals for the upcoming year prior to the start of the fall semester.

6. Accept all the obligations and responsibilities of being a Student Body representative.

7. Maintain a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week during the Senator's term in office.

8. Not complete office hours in any one-day period.

9. Attend all functions, unless prior notice is given in writing.

10. Attend all regularly scheduled meetings.

11. Notify the Student Life Office in the event of an absence from the Student Senate meetings or office hours.

12. Act as liaison between the Student Body, faculty and the college administration.

13. Represent the Student Body on all issues.

14. Vote on all matters pertaining to the Student Body.

15. Be a representative on committees as assigned by the Student Senate President.

16. Exercise all additional rights necessary or required to serve the best interests of the college and the Student Body.

17. Be a part of the Document Evaluation Team, ensuring the Constitution, By-laws, and other Legislation do not conflict.

18. Be aware of the ideas and opinions of the Student Senate and the Student Body.

19. Encourage student involvement campus-wide.

20. Promote integration, coordination, and cooperation between all clubs/organizations on campus.

21. Maintain an unbiased attitude toward all clubs/organizations and individuals.

22. Maintain complete confidentiality of all clubs/organizations information.

23. Maintain complete confidentiality of all internal Student Senate matters.

24. Aid in the selection of the student awards.

25. Reserve the right to revise a subsidy made to a student club/organization.

26. Evaluate the clubs/organizations to establish a ranking for "Club of the Year" distinction.

This set of By-laws shall take effect upon affirmation by the Student Senate.
